Vitamins are very important for human health and they also play a key role in hair loss prevention. Also daily doses of vitamin E, P and F are administered to patients undergoing hair loss treatment for better and longer lasting effect. Researchers have found out that hair loss occurs when there is an insufficiency of vitamin B6, biotin and folic acid in one’s diet, as well as of the minerals magnesium, sulfur and zinc. In addition, the B vitamins, especially B5 (pantothenic acid) and B3 (niacin) are very important for hair growth. Foods rich in vitamin B are peas, soy beans, nutritional yeast, beans, various nuts, eggs, and red meat. It is important to include enough of these foods in your diet, because researchers have found out that men who do not take enough vitamin B6 with food start loosing hair very quickly and those who do not take enough folic acid become completely bald in a very short time.
Another important hair growing supplement is biotin. Foods rich in biotin are brown rice, green peas, bulgur, oats, lentils, sunflower seeds, walnuts, etc. Alternatively, you may take 50 mg of biotin three times a day. Vitamins E and C are also important for normal hair growth and hair loss prevention, as they stimulate the immune function and improve blood circulation in the scalp. The optimum dosage of vitamin E per day ranges between 400-1,000 IU. Strange as it may sound, some vitamins may actually cause hair loss. For example, taking large daily doses of vitamin A over a long period of time may cause hair loss, but hair usually regrows when the intake of vitamin A stops. As hair is mostly composed of protein, sticking to a diet rich in protein may improve one’s hair health. Nutritionists have found out that a wholesome low-fat diet rich in red meat, nuts, green, leafy vegetables, seafood (especially seaweeds), raw oats, cherry juice and dried fruits works wonders in restoring natural hair growth and controlling the male/female pattern baldness.
